Our Green Principles
Our five environmental principles guide the way we work: source locally, reduce, reuse and recycle, consider the full lifecycle of everything we use, insist on high welfare standards and be open and honest with our guests, team and suppliers. These principles shape decisions across the hotel.
A Sustainable Hotel Stay
Sustainability is built into the way we work every day. From energy-efficient lighting and water-saving systems to towel reuse, responsible suppliers and low-waste practices, every detail is considered. Over the years, we have made more than 100 changes across the hotel to improve our environmental performance without compromising comfort..
Eco-Friendly Bedrooms
Our 32 bedrooms have been designed with care, comfort and sustainability in mind. They include locally made 100% wool carpets, bespoke eco beds from a leading UK luxury bed manufacturer and solid wood furniture made in the UK using trees felled by storms or tree surgeons. It is thoughtful design with a lighter footprint.
Responsible Materials
Wherever possible, we choose materials that are local, responsible and built to last. Our wallpaper is Forest Stewardship Council certified and printed in the UK with vegetable inks, while many walls use local Farrow & Ball eco paint. We also upcycle furniture where we can, helping reduce waste across the hotel.
Local Food and Drink
In Arbor Restaurant, our menus focus on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients, with organic produce used where possible and high animal welfare standards expected from our suppliers. Our bar follows the same approach, with locally brewed beers, carefully selected spirits and wines chosen with the carbon footprint of each bottle in mind.
Reducing Waste
We look carefully at what comes into the hotel and what goes out. Used kitchen oil is turned into fuel, coffee grounds are composted for our community vegetable garden, and milk is delivered in reusable pails that are collected and refilled. These small actions help reduce waste every day.
Energy and Water
Behind the scenes, we use solar thermal panels to help heat our water and a combined heat and power unit to generate electricity on site while warming the building. We also use low-energy LED lighting, intelligent lighting controls, low-flow water systems and rainwater harvesting for irrigation.

Guests travelling by electric car can use our four EV chargers, installed in 2025.
